How an AI receptionist and Jane.app work together to turn patient conversations into confirmed bookings.
Voice AI is changing how clinics attract new patients and bring existing patients back.
For clinics using Jane, though, choosing a Voice AI solution is more complicated.
As of this writing, Jane does not offer an open API, provide API keys to clinics or developers, or plan to make them broadly available.
Jane has also announced that it is developing its own AI receptionist following its acquisition of Ginger Desk.
The five paths
Approx. 8-minute read
This creates an unusual market. Clinics are increasingly ready for AI-powered patient access and activation, but third-party providers generally cannot access the complete set of Jane data and functions required for reliable, real-time booking.
Jane clinics still have options. Based on ClinicGlide’s experience building Voice AI for healthcare, here are five practical paths available to Jane users.
The five paths
1. The Dream: Full Inbound Automation

A full inbound Voice AI receptionist answers calls and completes routine administrative transactions without requiring staff to finish the work. The solution needs to include:
Understand what the patient wants.
Identify the correct patient, service, location, and practitioner.
Read accurate availability and apply the clinic’s schedule rules.
Create, modify, or cancel the appointment in Jane.
Effectively take smart messages, or transfer the call, if the patient has trouble.
ClinicGlide has firsthand experience with full inbound automation. Clara Voice for Jane, released in late 2025, allowed a patient to communicate availability, select an appointment, and have it created in Jane during the call. We worked around the lack of an API using legacy integration techniques that complied with Jane’s Terms of Use.
Clara Voice successfully demonstrated that full inbound Voice AI booking for Jane was possible. ClinicGlide ultimately paused new sales because Jane’s closed integration model and product architecture made the solution difficult for the majority of clinics to operate for Voice AI. ClinicGlide subsequently focused its AI Receptionist on primary and acute care settings, and has had good success with AI Receptionist in these settings.
What ClinicGlide learned about AI Receptionist in Jane clinics
The patient experience has to be excellent. Someone calling a hospital or medical office often has a strong reason to stay on the line. Someone choosing between several similar clinics can simply hang up and call the next one if the experience feels slow, confusing, or unfamiliar.
Clinic readiness matters. Policies, escalation rules, scheduling data, and service definitions must be mature enough to support automation. Many smaller clinics have not yet formalized these foundations.
Demand remains strong. Jane clinics want an affordable, out-of-the-box solution, but the technical and operating environment makes that difficult to deliver without approved transactional access.
Main conclusion: Full inbound automation has the greatest potential to reduce front-desk workload, but it is currently the most constrained option for Jane clinics.
Advantages
Significantly reduces front-desk workload.
Answers calls and completes bookings 24/7.
Allows patients to finish their request in one conversation.
Limitations
We have not identified a generally available, official Jane integration that publicly demonstrates this complete workflow.
ROI can be harder to achieve because inbound conversations and scheduling rules are complex, particularly in multidisciplinary clinics with net billing.
Poor execution can frustrate callers and cost the clinic patients.
2. The Compromise: Partial Inbound Automation

Partial inbound automation handles selected parts of the receptionist workflow while leaving the final transaction or more complex requests with clinic staff. This may include answering calls, responding to routine questions, collecting booking details, routing messages, or directing patients to online booking.
One example is Trust Driven Care. Through Jane’s approved integration program, they upload patient and appointment data that can support a separate patient communication and CRM database. Jane describes the integration as supporting two-way SMS, reminders, targeted email, and patient outreach. Trust Driven Care states that the Jane integration is one-directional, with data flowing from Jane into Trust Driven Care rather than being written back into Jane.
Trust Driven Care also advertises AI receptionist flows, but the public materials reviewed for this blog do not clearly establish that its voice receptionist completes real-time booking transactions inside Jane.
The AI answers the call and responds to basic questions.
It may use synchronized appointment or patient information.
It collects the patient’s booking request.
It may direct the patient to online booking or create a task for staff.
A human completes or confirms transactions the system cannot perform.
In this model, a patient can initiate a booking request by phone, but staff may still need to complete it. The value depends on how quickly and clearly the clinic handles that final step. Worst case, you now pay both your admin and your AI Receptionist for taking the same booking.
Advantages
Easier and less risky to implement than a full integration.
Reduces missed calls and voicemail pressure.
Keeps staff involved in complex or higher-risk transactions.
Limitations
Often transfers work to another queue instead of eliminating it.
Patients may leave the call without a confirmed appointment.
Slow staff follow-up can still result in a lost booking.
3. The Practical Starting Point: Outbound Patient Activation

Most administrative teams have a list of patients they intend to call.
That list rarely reaches zero because incoming calls and daily clinic work take priority. Even when the work is known to be important, incoming calls and immediate patient needs consistently push these proactive follow-up down the list.
Outbound Patient Activation follows up with appropriate patients at the right time, without relying on spare capacity from the administrative team.
Outbound Patient Activation uses AI to contact patients who have a legitimate reason to return but have not yet booked. It turns a familiar administrative backlog into a consistent, measurable booking workflow.
Then, when a patient shows interest, the magic begins, as the AI agent books them in real time.
Common Patient Activation campaigns include:
Reconnect with inactive patients.
Rebook late cancels.
Rebook no-shows.
Follow up on incomplete treatment plans.
Support recalls and periodic care.
Activate referrals.
Supplement Jane reminders for high-ticket items
ClinicGlide’s AI Patient Activation is one current option built specifically for this category.
Why outbound is often the best place to start
Focused: The clinic determines who should be contacted and why.
Simpler: A narrower conversation requires less configuration and fewer escalation rules.
Measurable: Results can be tied directly to conversations, bookings, utilization, and revenue.
Inbound automation primarily reduces the cost of responding to existing demand. Outbound activation addresses the other side of the equation by converting unused clinical capacity into appointments.
Advantages
Generates measurable bookings and revenue.
Uses focused, predictable conversations.
Completes proactive work that busy administrative teams often postpone.
Limitations
Patient selection and outreach consent must be carefully managed.
Accurate scheduling access is still required for real-time booking.
Performance varies by patient population, clinic type, and campaign.
ClinicGlide Patient Activation reconnects the right patients and helps turn missed opportunities into measurable bookings.
4. Wait for Jane’s AI Receptionist

Waiting for Jane is no longer based only on speculation. Jane currently says that it is developing a 24/7 AI receptionist intended to handle appointments and basic inquiries while passing more complex conversations to their team of virtual-assistants-for-hire, or your clinic staff. Jane has not publicly committed to a general release date on the page reviewed for this draft.
Jane’s broader AI position emphasizes privacy, HIPAA and PIPEDA alignment, not using clinic or patient data to train AI models, and designing AI to support human expertise.
Advantages
Native access to Jane’s scheduling and patient workflows.
Lower integration risk with one accountable provider.
Strong alignment with Jane’s privacy and security standards.
Limitations
Release timing, pricing, and initial scope remain unclear.
Early functionality may not support every clinic workflow.
Waiting does not address current staffing, patient access, or utilization problems.
Waiting is reasonable when the clinic’s need is modest, its current operation is stable, and it prefers native Jane functionality. It is less attractive when missed calls, unused practitioner capacity, or staff dissatisfaction are already affecting financial performance.
5. Do Nothing

Doing nothing can be a sound strategy when a clinic is satisfied with its financial results, practitioner utilization, administrative staffing, and employee experience.
Clinics can continue to thrive without introducing new AI, more so when they have some of these attributes:
Highly specialized or meaningfully differentiated.
Operating near their desired capacity.
Supported by a stable and satisfied administrative team.
Serving patients who strongly prefer human interaction.
Highly digitized, with patients already using online booking effectively.
Small enough that administrative automation would provide limited value.
These clinics do not need Voice AI simply because it is available. The risk is narrower: clinics with unused capacity, persistent missed calls, or administrative turnover may struggle to keep pace with competitors that use AI to book patients and activate demand more consistently.
Advantages
Avoids implementation costs, risks, and disruption.
Preserves a patient experience that already works.
Allows the clinic to focus on higher-priority investments.
Limitations
Does not improve current staffing or patient access constraints.
Leaves unused capacity and missed booking opportunities unresolved.
Risks falling behind clinics using AI to improve booking and patient activation.
So, Which Path Is Right for Your Clinic?
There is no single right Voice AI strategy for every Jane clinic.
Your best choice depends on the constraint limiting the clinic today.
If missed calls and front-desk workload are the problem, partial inbound automation may provide some relief. Full inbound automation remains the dream, but the absence of open, real-time access to Jane makes third-party solutions difficult to deliver reliably.
If practitioner utilization and revenue growth are the priorities, Outbound Patient Activation is the clearest place to start. It is available now, the conversations are focused, and results can be measured directly in bookings and revenue.
Waiting for Jane is reasonable for clinics that want a native solution and can afford to wait.
Doing nothing is also valid when the clinic is performing well, the team is satisfied, and unused capacity is not a concern.
For most clinics, the decision comes down to three questions:
Are we satisfied with our results? Financial, operational and HR.
Is our admin team keeping up? Without excessive workload or frustration>
Do we need results now? Or can we wait and see.
Clinics that answer yes to the first two questions may not need Voice AI today.
For clinics with unused capacity, Patient Activation offers the most practical combination of feasibility, speed to value, and measurable return.
The important step is to make an intentional decision. AI creates value only when it addresses a clear operational problem, fits the clinic’s workflows, and produces outcomes the clinic can measure.
